Workability 4/26/12

Mr. Bridges and his ESE/Strive class teamed up with Mrs. Golden and our advance students to teach a school-to-work transition program.  This is something very exciting that we are trying at CHS and look forward to seeing some great results from both the Global Logistics students and the ESE/Strive class.  Today we discussed the importance of a clean home and work place and learned the skill of sweeping.  We hope you enjoy the pictures from today!

Target Tour

We had the privilage of touring the Target DC on Friday 2/24 and 3/9.  We would like to give a BIG thank you to Mr. Rabakon and his team members for taking time out of there day to educate us about Target.

Below are some quotes from the students:

"The facility itself was amazing, and I was presented with many new things.  I loved the kind and patient words of the tour guides, and how they were always open to questions no matter how small.  The warehouse has brought many new jobs the area and I deeply appreciate what Target and its emplyees have done for this community."  -John O'Neal, 11th grader

"Touring the Target distribution center has given me an idea of what I want to do for a career, which I didn't have before.  When I graduate from Columbia High School and complete the logistics program, I will be filling out an application to work at the Target Distribution Center."   - Ian Cosentiino, 10th grader

"Being involed in Logistics has impacted my life in a copious amout.  By being enrolled in a Logistics class I have learned how much work goes into a warehouse and how much effort it take to get the food and other materials into the stores that we go to."    - Melia Morlowe, 12th grader

February 15, 2012

We had our Ribbon Cutting and it was a Huge Success!  We would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to everyone that came out and helped us celebrate this momentous occasion!

After the Ribbon Cutting Allan and Ray from MHIA signed our MODEX banner that will soon be hanging proudly in our new warehouse!  Jessie, Hollianne and Mrs. Golden also signed the banner to remember the wonderful time that we shared in Atlanta.

Also on this date we hosted the Banner Center Meeting and were so thankful for everyone that attending this meeting as they helped us spread the word about what we are doing at CHS!  This meeting was very special as almost all of our students were able to sit in on, hear, and speak with the members of the banner center!  Thank you for allowing us to be the host and helping us celebrate our Ribbon Cutting, we hope each and everyone of you will return to see our warehouse in motion!

MODEX 2012

Jessie Thomas and Hollianne Dohrn were two lucky students that got to attend the MODEX conference this year.  This conference was held in Atlanta, GA and the students were given the opportunity to help with the conference, network with other schools and teachers from across the north east, as well as see the industry in action!  The young ladies had a fabulous time and give Allan Howie and MHIA a BIG THANK YOU for making this trip possible!!

Monday, February 6, 2012
Attended MODEX Night Out at the Georgia Aquarium.  We had an amazing time, got to meet a lot of wonderful people, see some astounding exhibits, and eat some spectacular food!

Tuesday, February 7th
We were able to tour the show room floor, visit with and educate the vendors on who we were and why we were there.  It was awesome to hear the response when everyone found out that we now teach Logistics in High School, almost everyone followed this comment with "I wish they would have taught Logistics when I was in high school".
Also on this day the girls were put to work and given their job assignments for Wednesday, Class Room Day.  They assembled bags with the students from the 4 other schools and put the logistical knowledge to the test.  Jessie even explained what JIT means on the bus ride back to the hotel that evening!

Classroom Day

CHS and 4 other schools presneted to a room of educators, administrators, and community members of the GA area.  Walgreens also had two speakers that talked about their diversity program, and WOW, that was amazing!  The ladies had a wonderful time hearing about the different programs!  But before the educating began the young ladies had a job to do!  Jessie was a human directional that helped guide everyone to the correct classroom, and Hollianne's job was to scan badges and check everyone in before the learning began.
Wednesday evening Mr. Howie took the educational day presenters out for dinner at Hard Rock Cafe.  We had a wonderful conversation at dinner and the biggest hamburgers you have ever seen!  Thank you Allan for dinner and the wonderful memories that we made while eating dinner with you!

Thursday, February 9, 2012
