Welcome back to the 2011-2012 school year!

Global Logistics as CHS started off with a BOOM!
The students are excited and ready for the challenges of 2011-2012.  We have 3 classes of 1st year students that are taking Global Logistics and Supply Chain management as well as 2 classes of 2nd year students that are taking Introduction to Information Technology Applications.  Between the two classes we have a total of 96 students enrolled this year!

The students have learned the basics of the SUMS kits and we have successfully labeled, staged, and delivered 165 kits to our local Elementary Schools.  The students have also received and inventoried a pallet shipment of children's books from First Book.

The students are excited about the awesome real world projects that they get to participate in and we look forward to a wonderful year at CHS!

Florida Gateway College - Simulator

May 10th and 11th our students had the opportunity to drive a tractor trailer.  The students have a new found respect for semi drivers on the road.  We also learned that the college offers an 8 week CDL A course that uses the simulator and most drivers start out making $40 - $50,000 a year.

We would like to give a BIG Thank You to Mr. Shep, Miss Robin and Miss Stephanie for bringing the simulator to CHS!

This week we have continued to work on the First Book Shipment.  One shipment has started to leave our warehouse via UPS and is going all across the country.  The second shipment is 313 boxes, each box containing 63 books, going to the SE Texas Food Bank via Less Than Load.

The young adults are doing a fantastic job with this project and we are getting super excited about getting new books in for next year!

First Book visits CHS

Miss Anna with First Book came and visited us today (4/27/11).  We were so excited to have her in our classroom, on the bus, and in the warehouse with us.  Anna gave everyone a crash course on what these books in our warehouse mean, what we are to do with them, and what happens next.  We were super excited to stage 4 pallets of children's book for shipment today.  Did you know that with this staging we just helped over 1,500 kids get a book?  It is super exciting!!!

Thanks again Anna for coming to visit and giving us this wonderful opportunity to work with you amazing company First Book!

Target & Firstbook paired up to distribut 1 million childrens books across the USA

This week the Global Logistics classes have been distributing children's books to Columbia County's title 1 elementary schools.  We received 2,600 books to give away.  The students are really enjoying being able to give back to our community.  When visiting Summers Elementary School, four team members from Target joined us!  We were able to go into a classroom and read a story to the class as they followed along with us in their own book.  Below are some pictures from our visit.
